Day 17: Just one of the reasons why I Blog....

So apparently somebody my sister knows has a little boy who's also 6 years old, and has just been diagnosed as Type One Diabetic, but who has had a much worse first experience than Ems had back when she first fell ill. My sister got in touch because she wanted to share my Blog posts about our experiences with Emilie detailing how we have coped in the last six months or so.

This is just one of the reasons why I write this Blog; to connect with people. If I can help just one other carer of someone with Diabetes feel as though they are not alone, that there are plenty of others out there who are in the same boat, then it makes it all worthwhile.

I only hope my scribbled ramblings can give this person some comfort. As Mrs. sparky said in the Email she sent back to my sister, it doesn't get any better trying to deal and cope with Emilie's constant battle to keep her blood sugars if not regular, at least consistent, but it does get a little easier  the more confident you get about what to do.

In the early days, the slightest concern and we were on the phone to the Child Assement Unit's 24 hour helpline, and that is what they are there for. Now, we are just like 'she's low, we need to do this...' and that just comes with time, practice, and lots of patience.

With great power comes great responsibility. I have apparently been gifted with the ability to write well; if I can use that gift for good and help people, as well as grossing them out or scaring the shit out of them at times, then that is my duty. It's the least I can do.

It sounds like this little boy has had a rough time of it and is going to need plenty of support to help get him through the early stages of this horrible disorder. Right now, my thoughts are with him, and all his family.

Hopefully by reading this Blog, his current guardian might get to see that this is the worst bit that they are going through right now, and that once they get through these early days there is nothing to stop her little boy from living a perfectly ordinary life; provided he takes care of himself and doesnt let the Diabetes beat him. There are some very famous people who are Type one Diabetic, and it hasn't stopped a single one of them from achieving their dreams.

Until the next time, see you in 24 hours, peeps.

Sparky xx
